Report on the Knight Investiture 2nd – 3rd June 2007, Arad / Romania


The Romanian Bailiwick of the „Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta, Federation of the Autonomous Priories” organised its 2nd spectacular Knight Ceremony on the 2nd June 2007 in Arad.

The Ceremony started at 15.00 and was organised in the Administrative Palace of Arad (Municipality Hall). His Eminent Highness Count José Manuel Costa da Veiga COSMELLI – the Regent of the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta, Federation of the Autonomous Priories greeted the postulants and all present Knights, Dames of the Federation and also our dear guests, and representatives of the media.



During the Knight Investiture the following high-ranking leaders of international and national organisations, successful businessmen were conferred Knight of Malta from Romania by the Regent:
Mr. Sigfrid Ioan BALASESCU
Mr. Mircea PAKAY
Mr. Dan Alexandru SURDUCAN
Mr. Doru SURDUCAN





The Regent spoke to the newly inaugurated Knights about the unforgettable and unrepeatable day of the initiation and he explicated that “peace is not the pause of war, but when there is no violence.” He spotted that “poverty in the 21st century and the diseases mean violence as well” and underlined: the most important task of the members of KMFAP is to show that knights’ virtues are still actual in the modern world and with the help of them we can be able to change the world.

The speech was followed by appointments, promotions and also by the ceremony of the Sovereign Order of Cyprus with many other spectacular formalities.



Advancements of grade:
Sir Tiberiu DEKANY was promoted to Grand Cross Knight of Malta (GCKM)
Lady Lizica MIHUT was promoted to Grand Cross Dame of Malta (GCDM)
Sir Zoica GELU was promoted to Knight Commander (KCM)

Appointment:
Sir dr. Constantin BUZATU, GCKM was appointed to Prior of Romania of KMFAP

Special honours:
Sir Tiberiu DEKANY was appointed to Grand Prior of Romania of the “Hungarian Order”

The Regent gave a short explanation about the Order of Cyprus and invited Prof. George POPPER – Grand Executive Chancellor of the Sovereign Order of Cyprus to conduct the Knighthood Ceremony.

The following Knight of Malta joined the Sovereign Order of Cyprus (“Knights of Sword and Silence”):

On the Knight Ceremony and during all official programs the following high-ranking personalities supported and stood by the Regent of the Order:
His Grace Count Prof. George POPPER (HUN) – Lieutenant General, Grand Prior of the Hungarian Langue
His Excellency Jerry L. BRUMLEY (USA) – Minister of Finances

Honorary Guests:
His Excellency Csaba KIRÁLY, KCM (HUN) – Grand Master of the “Hungarian Order”
Sir Ernő LAZAROVITS (HUN) – member of the Ecumenical Council of the Knight Order
Mr. Gyula MIKLÓS (HUN) – Deputy Grand Prior of the International Knightly Order of Saint George



The ecumenical nature of the Knight Order follows that during the Knight Investiture Roman Catholic, Jewish and Orthodox spiritual leaders were also present. Numerous Parliament members, representatives and members of the Government honoured the event with their presence as well.

In the evening at 7 PM the official dinner topped the day, which was organised at the Best Western “Central Hotel”, where the new knights received their diplomas vindicating their assignments.
