"Another chance: Hope and Prospect - Catastrophes and Renascence"; International Conference and "In memoriam 09/11 2001" Memorial Running between 7th - 12th September 2006, Kiskunfélegyháza / Hungary

Since 2002 the Fire Department of Kiskunfélegyháza City together with the Rescue Operations Department of Bács-Kiskun County have been commemorating their heroic brother-in-arms fire fighters - who have died in action on duty during the tragic terror attacks on the 11th September 2001.

This year was the 5th anniversary of this event of great dimensions. Besides the Memorial Running there were numerous interesting programs, conference with several lectures, fairs, exhibitions and of course the Firemen Memorial Evening was also organised.

Honorary Guests of the event were Mr. Dan Daly - New York Fire Chief (FDNY) and Ms. Mary Bryant - Director of the Achilles Foundation in New York.

Main Patrons of the event:

  • Prof. George Popper, lt.-general - President of IBSSA
  • Dr. Attila Tatár, lt.-general - Director of National Rescue Operations Department
  • Dr. András Simonyi - Ambassador of Hungary in Washington
  • Mr. András Balczó - 3-times Olympic and 10-times World Champion Pentathlonist

On the occasion of this high-level event we wish to lift up our voice against the senseless terrorism; within the framework of the conference we want to commemorate the victims of the catastrophes; and with the Memorial Evening we salute those people, who consider their job as such a profession that they help at certain places - even in peril of their life - from where everybody runs away.

"If I look at the people, the world turns out to be united"
(adage)

We would like to have this as a Memorial Day: reminding us throughout the world of the tragedies, catastrophes and the heroes of these events!
